Today I just heard an interesting story from my friend Laura and I would like to share it with you.
Laura is working in a restaurant as a waitress in Canada. With her there are also other waiters and waitresses. One of them was Martin.
Her job is simple. Preparing the tables, greeting the customers, handing them the menu with her smile, delivering food, giving the bill to the customers when they are leaving and also handing back the change to them.
Martin was supposed to do the same thing. According to Laura, Martin did help prepare the table, but he almost never greeted any customer at the entrance, nor did he hand the menu to them and communicate with them.
However, he was very keen to deliver the bill, collect the money, and give the customers back the change.
I asked Laura why.
Cuz it is the timing when waiters usually get the tips.
Martin was really smart lol. When everybody else was greeting the customers with their smiles, introducing themselves as well as the food to them, Martin was doing nothing. He didn’t need to communicate much with the customers.
But then when it was the chance for him to get the money, he always showed up.
The tips were supposed to be given for the delicious food, for the friendly service of other waiters, for the environment of the restaurant.
And yet Martin took the tips.
Fair? Of course not. That’s why Laura and other waiters complaint to the restaurant about Martin, and he got fired.
It is actually the same here.
