What is OneLiver culture?
In The Cultural Politics of English as an International Language, Allastair Pennycook identifies a number of different meanings of culture:
First, culture is set of superior values, especially embodied in works of art and limited to a small elite.
Second, culture is a whole way of life, the informing spirit of a people.
Third, culture is the way in which different people make sense of their lives.
No matter which meaning you are using, there is one inseparable element that is bound to culture:
people
People live surrounded by culture. People follow culture.
But where does culture come from?
Culture doesn’t come with nature. Culture shouldn’t be taken for granted.
Culture is shaped and created by people.
So who shapes the culture in OneLiver?
Us, the people who created it, and you, the people who are using it.
We can shape it, and we can of course change it.
We are not talking about some grand superior values here. We want money, right?
But in what way do you want to earn the money?
How do you want to make sense of OneLiver?
As the people who created this app, we want to provide one simple service:
for men to talk to beautiful women
Nothing sexual. Nothing illegal.
That’s what we want to make sense of the business.
That’s why we have been asking you to chat more in video calls.
Don’t just keep your mouth shut and wait for the viewers to ask you question.
Ask them questions instead. Show your interest in them.
We are glad to notice that more of you are doing this.
Ask yourself:
Do you want to make money by taking your clothes off so that the guys can jerk off
or by making friends and chatting with people who like you?
Do you want to be thought as an easy, materialistic person
or a sociable, presentable person?
It’s up to you.
It’s also up to you to shape OneLiver culture, using the app in your own way. (Well, still, we have rules and prohibitions that we need you to follow)
However, we do want you to think bigger, act cooler.
Be a sociable, presentable person
Earn smartly, with your talents, not by cheating.
How?
1. The first step is simple. Close your eyes. Imagine that you are talking to a guy. He is laughing at your joke. He is smiling and enjoying his time with you.
Just have this image in your mind.
2. The second step: dress nicely, not too revealing, in video calls.
3. The third step: always be the first one to open your mouth and speak in video call. Smile. Say something. Anything.
You can talk about weather. You can compliment the guy, saying he looks handsomer than his profile picture.
4. Take baby steps. One sentence at a time.
Try to prepare one sentence to talk before the call starts. Then speak it out.
Get used to speaking. Get used to smiling.
Then go back to the first step, and repeat:
Imagine>prepare>action>imagine…
Self-actualization
Earn money by being sociable, presentable, and smart.
If you think you are not good at speaking English, try a little bit and make good use of the sending message function in video call:
