Previously we talked about how you can make your video calls 2-3 times longer by using the Repeat➡️React➡️Follow-up cycle.

Today let’s see how these techniques can be put into action under a simple question:

“What’s your name?”

Asking the viewer’s name is a very common practice. It is also very important for you to remember his name and call his name from time to time.

Let’s see some examples:

A common name

💁🏻‍♀️ What’s your name?

🙋🏻‍♂️ I’m Jack.

👩🏻 Jack! (Repeat)

👩🏻 I like your name. It is easy to remember! I will remember you! (React)

👩🏻 Is Jack a common name in your country? (Follow-up)

In this example, the viewer has a common name. Instead of saying “your name is so common”, the girl says “it is easy to remember” and  also mentions that she will remember him. This makes the viewer think “Now she is going to remember me. I need to impress her”.

For the follow-up, she tries to link his name to his country and hence move naturally to the next topic – his country.

A name that you have heard before

💁🏻‍♀️ What’s your name?

🙋🏻‍♂️ My name is William.

👩🏻 William! (Repeat)

👩🏻 Just like the prince in England. I like your name. (React)

👩🏻 Are you from England? (Follow-up)

This time the performer is also trying to link the viewer’s name to a country. Of course it doesn’t always need to be a country.

For instance, if his name is Harry, you can joke that his name is like “Harry Potter” and hence ask him “Have you ever watched any Harry Potter movie?” and move the topic to movies naturally.

If his name is David, you can joke about David Beckham and ask “Do you like football?” and move the topic to his hobbies. Or you can just compliment him saying “Now I think you look like David Beckham!”

The key is to use your knowledge and try to connect his name to what you already know.

A name that you have never heard before

When you hear an unusual name, it is difficult for you to connect it to your knowledge. However, it is actually easy to respond!

💁🏻‍♀️ What’s your name?

🙋🏻‍♂️ My name is Ahmad.

👩🏻 Ahmad? (Repeat)

👩🏻 I have never met any Ahmad in my life. You are the first Ahmad I have met! I will remember you! (React)

👩🏻 Is it an arabica name? Where are you from? (Follow-up)

If his name is special and you have never heard of it before, just say that he is your first! Also mention that you will remember him and this will make him feel that he is special to you.

Since his name is uncommon, it is very natural for you to ask where he is from and hence move to the topic about his country.

Hoy veamos cómo se pueden poner en práctica estas técnicas bajo una simple pregunta:

“¿Cuál es tu nombre?”

Preguntar el nombre del espectador es una práctica muy común. También es muy importante que recuerdes su nombre y lo llames de vez en cuando.

👩🏻 ¿Es Jack un nombre común en tu país? (Hacer un seguimiento)

En este ejemplo, el espectador tiene un nombre común. En lugar de decir “tu nombre es tan común”, la chica dice “es fácil de recordar” y también menciona que lo recordará. Esto hace que el espectador piense “Ahora ella me recordará. Necesito impresionarla”.

Para el seguimiento, intenta vincular su nombre con su país y, por lo tanto, pasar naturalmente al siguiente tema: su país.

Esta vez, la performer también intenta vincular el nombre del espectador a un país. Por supuesto, no siempre es necesario que sea un país.

Por ejemplo, si su nombre es Harry, puedes bromear diciendo que su nombre es como “Harry Potter” y, por lo tanto, preguntarle “¿Has visto alguna vez alguna película de Harry Potter?” y trasladar el tema a las películas de forma natural.

Si su nombre es David, puedes bromear sobre David Beckham y preguntar “¿Te gusta el fútbol?” y trasladar el tema a sus aficiones. O simplemente puedes felicitarlo diciendo “¡Ahora creo que te pareces a David Beckham!”

La clave es utilizar tus conocimientos y tratar de conectar su nombre con lo que ya sabes.

Un nombre que nunca antes habías escuchado

Cuando escuchas un nombre inusual, le resultará difícil relacionarlo con tu conocimiento. Sin embargo, ¡es realmente fácil de responder!

💁🏻‍♀️ ¿Cómo te llamas?

🙋🏻‍♂️ Mi nombre es Ahmad.

👩🏻 Ahmad? (Repetir)

👩🏻 Nunca he conocido a ningún Ahmad en mi vida. ¡Eres el primer Ahmad que conozco! ¡Te recordaré! (Reaccionar)

👩🏻 ¿Es un nombre arábica? ¿De donde eres? (Hacer un seguimiento)

Si su nombre es especial y nunca has oído hablar de él, ¡solo di que es tu primero! También mencione que lo recordarás y esto le hará sentir que es especial para ti.

Dado que su nombre es poco común, es muy natural que preguntes de dónde es y, por lo tanto, pasa al tema de su país.
